CAPTAIN AMERICA : WINTER SOLDIER (2014)

CAPTAIN AMERICA : WINTER SOLDIER (2014)

In this one Captain America (played by Chris Evans) and Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson)  are a working together with S.H.E.I.LD. to take down whatever bad guys they find. At some point, the dude from ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER, Anthony Mackie, decides to help Captain America fight a metal armed assassin called The Winter Soldier. I don’t know…you gotta ask Black Widow because she knows all about this dude. While researching some clues as to who might be trying to kill Nick Fury (played by Samuel L Jackson) they run into an old nemesis. Also somewhere in this freakin plot Black Widow is trying to get Captain America, an actual date with like Flo from the Progressive commercials  or something like that.

Let me just say my son loved this movie and it was his favorite super hero movie when it came out. I am less generous about this one. In fact of all the Marvel movies, I probably have seen this one close to the least. I almost didn’t even buy it. While I do like the final fight scene and the giant hoover crafts, almost everything else about this movie feels like a 90’s love comedy had a 4 storyline pile up with a political thriller from the 90’s. It just wasn’t my thing.

Overall the acting is pretty stellar and the inclusion of Robert Redford (as Alexander Pierce) along with Emily Van Camp (as Agent 13)  added to Marvel’s ongoing master class in casting. So on that level alone this one gets high marks but as an overall movie, it’s lackluster in the grand scheme of things and almost feels unnecessary in the larger box of Marvel puzzle pieces needed to move the MCU forwarded. For those reason this one falls at around a 3 out of 7 for me.

The story itself feels gimmicky especially with what is to come regarding the major villains in this thing. I wish I could have liked, it but I have a really hard time even wanting to watch this one, let along reviewing it. Thank God that’s over with.
