FROZEN (2013)
So if you saw the ads
for TANGLED 2, no, I mean TANGLED ON ICE, no wait. FROZEN. You probably noticed
what I did and thought “wow Disney, how unoriginal can you get, didn’t we see
this in 2010?” Then if you have kids you drove the obligatory 4 door Sedan to
see this anyway… wait you haven’t? No spoilers then. Overall the story is nice
and original and while not overwhelmingly “wow” driven, it’s still got its
qualities and charms that only Disney seems to be able to deliver.
We have 2 sisters one of which is born with the ability to make stuff freeze. Her failure to control the power results in her getting separated from the world until one day, when the gates to the estate (mansion, castle, whatever) are opened and all winter breaks out.

Several really decent elements
shake out here which most likely you will catch, but I am going to tell you
anyway, because that is what this review is for.
1) Disney has once again abandoned the animals talking thing and gone strictly with the “humans will kinda tell you what the animals are saying” plan.
2) The music is a lot more contemporary and almost “pop” than usual. It gives the entire film which has multiple musical moments a different look and feel from what they have done in the past.
3) The villain reveal takes a LONG time to materialize and it’s worth the payoff in my opinion.

Drawbacks: Disney gets
accused of a lot of crap and this isn’t going to help because anyone going out
of their way to dig will find issues. It does unfortunately look a LOT like
Tangled in the snow, but far far more beautiful. This is not the funniest
Disney flick ever nor does it stand out in a crowd, but it is worth your time
and ultimately it is a great addition to your Disney collection. Not INCREDIBLES
or BOLT great, but worthy. Note – This should have been a G-rated movie by all
counts. It does have some decent suspense moments and a monster, but didn’t
MONSTERS INC?
I give FROZEN a solid 4 out
of 7 but your kids will rate it higher because Disney is going to milk their tiny little brains for every ounce of FROZEN merchandizing they can pry money out of your cold reluctant but wiser hands.
