SALVAGE (2009) : 31 DAYS OF MADNESS.....

SALVAGE (2009)

I am throwing some pretty obscure titles into the mix this year and SALVAGE out of the UK is no exception. The plot revolves around a container that washes ashore the residents of a suburban cul-de-sac are overcome by paranoia and general obscure sickness turning them into puss infected killing machines (not zombies though). Now fenced by the military a single mother who’s been at odds with her daughter decides to try and rescue her probably because she feels guilty about sleeping around.

Overall this movie has a pretty good pace despite of ton of dialog and a lot of darkness. In fact I don’t know if anyone in this flick has paid their electric bill in like 10 years. We get brilliant performances from the lead Neve McIntosh (who some will recognize from Dr. Who) and Dean Andrews (who was in nothing you know about). There are quite a few interesting elements in this aside from the grotesque practical effects and nicely done cinematography giving it a sense of satisfaction even in the mist of gritty seemingly hopeless violence.

Like a lot of horror flicks SALVAGE doesn’t end well, begin well or bode well for anyone. I can see why the British call this an instant horror classic and quite honestly it’s jarring enough to make it worth your time. I would not recommend watching this if you are depressed, it’s definitely not a pick me up film but it just might creep you out. Score one for the UK but much like 28 DAYS, this movie doesn’t make the military seem like a great line of defense either (which I consider one of the low points).

I give this movie a 4 out of 7 Rating definition : VERY GOOD This movie leaves you with that feeling that although everything may not be okay, girls can kick butt and one man can save the world with either one bullet left in the chamber some special power he discovered 5 minutes ago. This movie is a good time and makes you wonder how many people you can tell about its awesomeness the next day at work.
