POLTERGEIST (1982)
Tagline: “They’re here.”
Look, Dr. Lesh. We don't care about the disturbances, the pounding and the flashing, the screaming, the music. We just want you to find our little girl.

At one point this was on
cable like every 4 minutes and each time I remember thinking “Get rid of all
the stuffed animals and any creepy toys”. Now it’s a bit tougher to find online
streaming anywhere but alas for this Halloween season you can find it for a
mere $4.00 or less on DVD (try Walmart). It will be worth it just for the
sheer terror factor alone.
Coach (actually Craig T.
Nelson as Steve) and Diane are visited by spirits trying to talk their youngest
daughter into joining them through static on the TV. The family is excited to
have ghosts at first but slowly things get freakin out of freakin control and
the whole family is in danger, like serious creeptastic mind-blowing danger. To
me, this is the epicenter of horror even just hearing Zelda Rubinstein’s voice
is worth watching this thing. Fantastic special effects, great storytelling, and wow factor are all over this thing. Steven Speilberg wrote this but it is
directed by Tobe Hooper who did INVADERS FROM MARS and CROCODILE. Some of you
may also know the film series (particularly POLTERGIEST III) was surrounded by
tales of curses and bizarre events which only add to the intrigue (but in some
cases are just flat-out haunting, like real-life haunting).
If killer trees,
freaking little puppet clowns, faces getting ripped off and pool cleaners that
got fired like 20 years ago are your thing, POLTERGIEST is your movie (it’s
also an iconic horror flick that holds up to this day as one of the scariest
ever made).
