JACK THE REAPER (2011) : 31 DAYS OF MADNESS....

JACK THE REAPER (2011)

This one starts out with the mandatory group of teenagers headed out on a trip, get in an accident and wind up at a carnival of death. This movie comes across as a straight up B-movie horror flick but there is actually a really cool premise and a brilliant twist at the end, but unfortunately the execution makes it feel like nothing better than something a college film class could have come up with (and some of that stuff is a LOT better). The effects are pretty decent, I can’t really knock the film for that and if it gets a second installment the villain is pretty creep-tastic. I will say a lot of the killings are left to the imagination which is completely fine with me, since I am not the kind of person that needs to see every detail to get the point.

Right now you can pick this up at the nearest RED BOX but you are better off picking up WORLD WAR Z or just about anything else if you are looking for horror. Even with it’s fairly strong story, this movie just feels like a half scripted effort with a bunch of pretty decent actors and actresses not able to rescue it (Alexandra Holder, Hope Jaymes (BANDSLAM) and Tony Todd (CANDYMAN) who you should know by now I can’t stand).

JACK THE REAPER does have some high rated reviews online and for some reason has a bit of a cult following. I am not going to say it isn’t worthy of getting some credit from the B-movie enthusiast but I am certainly not in love with this movie at this point. You will also notice some narration at the beginning of the movie and you will be tempted to pay attention. Don’t, just don’t, it doesn’t make any sense and it doesn’t help anything. You will hear the same chick talking again during the movie trying to explain stuff… ignore that also.

I give this a 3 out of 7 - Rating Definition – What? This movie was not what you expected. You can not decide if this movie was good or bad but you know there were a few redeemable qualities about it. If you can remember what they were, you might be talked into watch it again.
