JACK FROST (1997)
Not to be confused with
JACK FROST the comedy released just a year later, JACK FROST the horror flick
revolves around a serial killer on his way to an execution who ends up in a
toxic waste accident that turns him into a snowman. With his new found powers,
he has decided to revisit (and kill) the town of the man that caught him and
pick up girls using his new frosted figure. Like a lot of FULL MOON horror
flicks of this time period, JACK FROST pulls out just about every CHEESE-TOPPING
in the book. In my opinion the formula works so well I have already seen this
thing twice in two months. JACK FROST is definitely closer to the comedy genre
than the horror genre, but the blend is unpredictably enjoyable. I should also
say having Shannon Elizabeth (AMERICAN PIE, SCARY MOVIE) show up did not hurt
at all.
The late Christopher
Allport does a stellar job as the lead (Sam) in the movie and for a B-movie
this thing is just loaded with talent and effort even down to F. William Parker
who is in just about everything ever made (everything from THE WEST WING to
X-FILES). I am a little surprised at a couple of things regarding this movie. 1
– why is this NOT a cult classic? 2 – Why did we only get 2 installments of great
B-movies like this and 3 installments so far on GINGERDEAD MAN (a series so bad
it should even embarrass Full Moon Entertainment).
If you like films along
the lines of CHILDS PLAY, the later NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET’s, MARS ATTACKS,
things like that. You will be in for a treat.
“I hope this isn’t a
taste of what I can expect from this town under your direction.” – Agent
Manners.
No Agent, you do hope it
is, because it’s a lot of freakin fun.
I give this movie a 4 out of 7 Rating
definition : VERY GOOD This movie leaves you with that feeling that
although everything may not be okay, girls can kick butt and one man can save
the world with either one bullet left in the chamber some special power he
discovered 5 minutes ago. This movie is a good time and makes you wonder how many
people you can tell about its awesomeness the next day at work.
