THE ATOMIC BRAIN (1963)

THE ATOMIC BRAIN (1963)

So depending on where you buy certain movies or when you will see how different marketing efforts try to get the attention of would be fans. So if you try to find this in some places (and you may want too, you can also find it under the name MONSTROSITY. This movie is basically about atomic power is being the thing we were missing when we were shooting for that brain transplant technology. An old woman hires two sexy foreign housekeepers with the idea of transplanting her old brain into a one of their bodies. Fool proof I tell you!!!!!!!!!!

In order to truly enjoy this flick you will need to do two things. 1) Get past the cheesy narrative at the beginning of the movie. This is pretty typical of sci-fi movies from this era, but if you are not used to it, it can make you eject this DVD or BLU-RAY in like 15 seconds. 2) It’s black and white. Hopefully this isn’t a hang up for you but I thought I would mention it.

Just few tid bits here. This thing moves a little slow but the performances are pretty decent given the fact that almost everyone in this film wasn’t trying that hard. The ending alone makes this one worth waiting for because it is one of the few films I have seen in a long time that really exploits the horrific plan of the villain and still manages to throw in a final twist. Director Joseph V. Mascelli was probably more famous for THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO STOPPED LIVING AND BECAME MIXED UP ZOMBIES than he was this film.

I would side step this one if you are sensitive about sexism and would rather avoid the disturbing subject matter. I know some people would rather this not be a cult classic but its spectacular badness probably has already landed it there for fans of cheese.

I give this movie a 3 out of 7. The next level up is probably just a little high. Rating Definition – What? This movie was not what you expected. You can not decide if this movie was good or bad but you know there were a few redeemable qualities about it. If you can remember what they were, you might be talked into watch it again.
