THE 6TH DAY (2000)

THE 6TH DAY (2000)

Arnold Schwarzenegger has made a lot of movies. In 2000 he was in this one and somehow even after getting into politics only took 5 years in between films. Right now he is making like 20 movies which is pretty good for a dude in his later 60’s. He is still not as bad a-s as Morgan Freeman though so don’t freak out. Oh and Merl from THE WALKING DEAD is also in this and dies a lot more times in this than he does in THE WALKING DEAD…no seriously it’s more than twice.

So in the future it is very likely that rich people will take over and make clones of you if you have enough money. In a sense you can live forever (in the secular sense anyway). You also don’t run into your own clone in the future, and when that happens, rich people who make clones chase you down using (you guessed it) an un-limited supply of clones.

Overall this movie has not only the look but the shot for shot feel of an 80/90’s movie. It easily could have come out around the time THE RUNNING MAN and TOTAL RECALL and it would have fit right in. The action sequences in the middle of the film after a decent intro are pretty lack-luster however the final 30 minutes or so are pretty great and the acting here is above par for this type of movie. I also got the impression that parts of this movie were actually shot where they were to avoid going over budget, not because they were practical for the movie. Overall this is not as good as THE RUNNING MAN or TOTAL RECALL but it is a close and fun 3rd place for this type of film.

I give this movie a 4 out of 7 just on Tony Goldwyn’s (the main bad guy) performance alone. Rating definition : VERY GOOD This movie leaves you with that feeling that although everything may not be okay, girls can kick butt and one man can save the world with either one bullet left in the chamber some special power he discovered 5 minutes ago. This movie is a good time and makes you wonder how many people you can tell about its awesomeness the next day at work.
