FADING OF THE CRIES (2008)

FADING OF THE CRIES (2008)

Tagline: Darkness is unleashed.

(Action, Fantasy, Mystery) [R]

Let me first say the premise of this film is pretty great. Zombies take over a town and this guy Jacob suddenly shows up with a killer sword and starts jacking them all up. He saves this girl named Sarah and she slowly comes to a realization about her relationship with her family. Ultimately the film is more about the demons within us, than the demons and zombies destroying this town but the ride is definitely interesting none the less.

Sadly this movie is troubled by about the most un-even “effects vs no effects vs good acting vs bad acting” mixes I have ever seen. We have stunning levels of cheese that almost look like they were shot on a Hasbro make your own movie kit and others that look like they took a team of effects guys weeks. This movie also features a few scenes with probably the largest number of zombies you will ever see on screen at one time. Not kidding.

Speaking of the odd number of gems in this… Mackenzie Rosman from 7TH HEAVEN shows up (and this chick can act). Hallee Hirsch from ER and CRIMINAL MINDS, but then we had Jacob…do you want to know what he was in before or after this? Well it’s nothing (also not kidding) and part of that shows in this film. Not saying he wasn’t trying, but I wouldn’t cast a lead without him having been at least a secondary actor in something…like ever. The guy who played the drunk in the film had a lot more screen time than the lead?

Jessica Morris (NIGHT OF THE TOMMYKNOCKERS) also caught my attention in this movie. At the very least keep an eye out for her. Right now she is doing a lot of B horror flicks and a few things on TV. Brad Dourif (CHILD'S PLAY) also shows up in this.

For decent cinematography at times and the efforts on the part of some of the actors I have to bump this up to a 3 out of 7. Don’t walk into expecting anything great and you might really enjoy this. For most people though if they were using my ratings…would give it a 2.
