GALAXY OF TERROR (1981)
Tagline: Hell has just
been relocated.
This movie is about a
space crew that goes to investigate the disappearance of another space crew on
a really poorly lit planet. Once there, one by one they start freaking out and giving into the power of their own fear. At some point, they make the determination
to investigate a pyramid where things generally get a lot worse.
At first, you might be thinking there isn’t much to love about a movie that uses "My Favorite Martian" as the main antagonist. For the most part you would be right. For fans of space horror that is just a bit campier (and bizarre in most cases) than ALIEN, this will be right up your alley. This one also has a pretty decent lineup of actors including Freddy from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET before he got his face burned to crud, Erin Moran (Happy Days), Grace Zabriskie (Seinfeld, Twin Peaks) and as mentioned before the late Ray Walston (My Favorite Martian, Fast Times At Ridgemont High etc.)

At
first glance this has B-Movie written all over it, even down to its name sake
(the director unless someone knows something I don’t) Roger Corman, and the
out of control poster associated with it. This movie for some reason ends up on
a lot of Worst Movies Of All Time lists, but it’s really not justified. For its
time this movie was actually trying and it also contained one of the most
bizarre space movie scenes I have seen in some time. Just watch out for giant
worms. As crazy as it is, I thought about giving this a 5, but instead of being
true to my first thoughts, I give
this one a 4 out of 7.
Having said that, this is not a movie I ever see myself returning to. It's a one-time watch maybe if you are doing an 80's space horror marathon or something.
