SCARY OR DIE (2012)
SCARY OR DIE is 4
interwoven stories. The first story called THE CROSSING takes place somewhere
in Arizona is about rednecks who kill illegal aliens (which plays in the worst
way to stereotypes) and end up encountering zombies near the Arizona, Mexico
border.
The second story TAEJUNG’S LAMENT which is essentially just a
dude walking about in a city somewhere till he comes upon a potential murder
happening and saves the female victim. Later on we find it wasn’t the best
choice.
The third story is
called RE-MEMBERED which is about a killer who winds up face to face with one
of his victims. One thing I liked about this one was that it was not over the
top trying to gore you out instead using decent storytelling and an overall
sense of dread.
The final story is
called CLOWNED where Corbin Bleu is a drug dealer (yeah Corbin Bleu from the
Disney channel. The same Disney channel that has about a 70% rate of “be a
child actor with us and screw your life up afterward” rate) who gets bitten by
a clown. This to me was by far the best story and throws in some doses of humor
from the two cops he reports his bite to.
I won’t say what happens
after that, but overall despite the crazy looking posters for this, SCARY OR
DIE just isn’t all that scary (gory at times but not scary). Having said that
the second half of this flick is pretty good and the tie in to the rest of the
stories at the end is pretty well done. I am a big fan of movies that have
multiple stories which is what attracted me to this in the first place.
SCARY
OR DIE isn’t in the same class as CREEPSHOW, but it’s worth at least a watch.
Although it probably falls slightly into the B-Movie category, there is a lot
about this movie that was done right.
I give this one a 4 out
of 7. REALLY GOOD This movie was better than expected especially after the
critics killed it. It does have that “I think I may have seen this before”
feeling, but you haven’t, it’s all in your head. This movie was likely redeemed
by some amazing actor or actress like Hugh Jackman or Kate Beckinsale.
