RETURN OF THE KILLER TOMATOES (1988)

RETURN OF THE KILLER TOMATOES (1988)

They are gardeners and carpenters, they are not tomato men.

So back before George Clooney hit it big he co-starred in this movie. Following up the original ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES the scientist who came up with the original idea to have tomatoes take over the world has now decided to make them more human.

Unfortunately plot wise this means that we are not going to see very many actual tomatoes in this movie. In spite of this disappointing fact, at the very least it’s pretty freakin funny. In fact the closest we get to seeing a live tomato is in flashbacks to the original ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES (the inclusion of which in this movie actually gets complained about in this movie). I will say it takes awhile to gain its traction but fans of ridiculous humor and odd movies will see this as well worth their time.

Avoiding crude humor (with a few minor exceptions) for the most part and almost no nudity this B-movie rarity is actually worth watching. In the tone of AIRPLANE and TOP SECRET this movie was actually surprisingly well done for a movie I FULLY expected to suck.

One other notable actor in the film is the original Addam’s Family dad John Astin who is still acting at the age of 83 (this was written in 2013 so you can do the math after this year), but shot this movie at age of 58. This wasn't his only encounter with tomatoes. He also starred in 2 more KILLER TOMATO movies and a short-lived TV series.

I give this one a 4 out of 7.
