PUPPET MASTER II (1991)

PUPPET MASTER II (1991)

Tagline: They're Back! No Strings Attached!

(Horror, Fantasy, Tiny Killers) [R]

He hasn't said... but I think it's much worse than that.

This time around a team of paranormal researchers come to try and make sense of horrific murders in the hotel from part I. The puppets in this one are trying to gather enough human brain matter to re-animate their dead puppet master Andre Toulon.

Like most of this series, PUPPET MASTER II would probably have been better coming up right alongside most 80’s horror flicks. This one is probably the best in the series overall when it comes to just overall creepiness. It also far outdoes the first installment which to be honest wasn’t all that tough.

Acting is not a strong point with anything done in this series but this one is probably also the best in the series in that department as well. This is the first entry in this now 15-part series (16 if you count their battle with the demon toys) where towards the end we get a seemingly bizarre twist that isn’t completely put together until part 8 PUPPET MASTER: THE LEGACY.

I am guessing Legacy was put together because aside from being put out in non-chronological order, the rest of the series is pretty hard to understand and at times seemingly makes NO SENSE AT ALL. Part of the problem with this series and some might call it a good thing, is that you can’t really tell if these puppets are evil or good for entire movies in the series. In the 2 latest installments XI and X they appear to be good (and yes they are STILL making these).

The only really notable actress in this was Charlie Spradling appears in this movie and is pretty under-utilized. If you are not familiar with her she also appeared in THE DOORS, WILD AT HEART, GROWING PAINS, and a handful of other TV shows.  If you like campy horror flicks, this is one you would want to include on “we are watching semi-crappy but notable campy horror movies” night.

I give this movie a 4 out of 7.
