JACK THE GIANT KILLER
(2013)
Not to be confused with JACK THE GIANT SLAYER which was
profoundly more epic and exciting. I checked this movie out because the premise
sounded decent enough.
In this one, it is basically a beanstalk story only Jack’s dad flies around in the sky in a giant castle and there are dinosaur-looking creatures involved. Jane March (probably best known for CLASH OF THE TITANS) is always a nice addition to your cast, but you need to try a least a little after that which for the most part this film fails to do. Trying to capitalize on some sort of underground bean-stalk craze that I am unaware of, this film misses in just about every category.

I will say a few good things about this movie just because there are parts that were actually not just flat-out horrific. They do at least throw in a few well-scripted lines that add SHAUN OF THE DEAD-ish humor to a film that started out more on the serious and dull side than it should have. Also, some of the CGI looked like an effort was put in (the flying castle especially), unfortunately, none of the dinosaur creatures were well done and from an effects standpoint, most of the movie looked thrown together over a one or two week period.
At the
very least THE ASYLUM studio is living up to their “we almost always put out
barely-watchable crap” reputation. In the race for BAD MOVIE supremacy, THE
ASYLUM is once again on the warpath.
