ATTACK OF THE 50FT
CHEERLEADER (2012)
This film is about a new drug that not only makes things
more attractive but more aggressive and a lot larger. When a second person gets
a hold of the drug (although not the way she wanted to) we get a 50 foot
cheerleader battle royal. Having said that, I think the title gave it away
before I actually typed all that out.
So when I checked this out, admittedly I was looking for
something a bit more tied to the 1950’s and 1960’s style horror flicks like
ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN. Instead I got a ridiculous movie about half naked
women running around being attacked by giant spiders and growing out of their
clothes. This EPIX release was probably counting on the same audiences than ran
for the DVD shelves after ZOMBIE STRIPPERS and BITCH SLAP.
Anyway meant to be a campy
comedy the movie comes across as something EPIX stole from SyFy and then made
into far more of an exploitation film than it needed to be. I didn’t completely
hate this movie, it was nice to see crazy Sean Young back on screen and they
did pick up some actual decent actors for this (including director Ted Raimi
who has a small role). Unfortunately and sadly that is about all they did well.
This movie is not something you want to watch more than once or is you really
value your time. However, fans of really really craptastic movies, this is a
must have. Oddly despite the title there is no blood and no actual horror in
this movie. I am pretty sure that one
day, for some stupid reason it will end up an actual cult classic.
This film gets a solid 2 out of 7. Rating Definition : 2 out
of 7 – EHH, this movie was not good and you know it. You kind of wish you
hadn’t paid to see it or allowed that chick in the deli to talk you into taking
her. Once the bad taste in your mouth is washed out, you won’t think this is
the worst movie ever, but you will think it was close.
