DAYBREAKERS (2009)
Tagline : The battle for
blood begins…
The premise of this one
is that vampires have pretty much taken over everything. Humans are allowed to
assimilate and become vampires, but those who refuse are hunted down and added
to the blood supply. Blood unfortunately for the vampires is running out so
only the really rich have access to it. The vampires that don’t get blood, turn
into hideous creatures that match the true monsters inside. Meanwhile Edward
Dalton (played by Ethan Hawke) is trying to develop a fake blood to quench his
own race because he is sympathetic with the human plight. I do like it when
being a vampire doesn’t mean you are a mindless follower of the leader, this
freedom of will is highlighted throughout my comic ANGELWOLF. Anyway, Elvis
played by Willem Dafoe (an actor I don’t like) finds a ray of hope for all
humanity and now Edward has to decide what the heck to do about all that since
his boss Charles Bromley (played by Sam Neill who took time out from doing
financial investment commercials) is a sadistic murderer.
Everything in this movie
is well done including the effects, acting and storyline. I especially liked
the way the movie ended and the second half I felt was much stronger than the
first half. For some dreary but creative and well done sci-fi vampire horror,
DAYBREAKERS is a great horror o thon choice.
