SUPER 8 (2011)

SUPER 8  (2011)

Is about as complete as a movie gets these days. Paying tribute to the classics of the 80's even when it comes to the film used, this movie offers something for everyone. Far more than special effects, aliens and zombies, it's a heartfelt gripping tale with some kids you would probably find the Goonies hanging out with. Also watch all of the credits, it's well worth the wait. JJ Abrams (STAR TREK) is mastering the craft of film making right before our eyes. Elle Fanning delivered such a powerful performance she appeared at the #1 spot on my TOP 10 ACTRESSES of 2011 list then promptly disappeared.

Part of the long list of great things about this movie is that it almost makes you forget there are aliens in it. We do know there is the seemingly longest and most impressive train wreck in cinematic history, and we do know that this movie does not care what you think. I love the fact that these kids are un-abashed natural acting towards each other and that we are not pretending all kids have this kind hearted banter void of cussing or verbally bashing each other once in awhile.

The adults in the film are not made to look like idiots. Especially towards the end Joes’ father especially takes matters into his own hands demonstrating love for his son despite the families loss. The film also takes us back to a time when mainstream big budget movies not only pitched conspiracy from our own government but practically counts on it. For a great summer flick, check this out and check it out now.

I give this movie an enthusiastic 7 out of 7.

Rating Definition : 7 out of 7 : STUNNINGLY BRILLIANT, this is a movie that should get consideration for your TOP 20 favorite films of all time. This is the movie that you couldn’t wait to see and skipping 4 meals last week made it worth it to fork over the theater price for admission, then repeat the process 17 more times. Then you will send letters to the theater manager asking why they don’t show the movie for years after its release.
