KIM POSSIBLE : SEASON 1 EPISODE 9 – ATTACK OF THE KILLER BEBES (2002)

In this one we find out that Drakken’s real name is Drew Lipsky and he was part of a group that involved Kim’s dad but was made fun of after one of his inventions went south. That is actually what drove him to become a villain. Drakken plots his revenge by having a new version of his perfected Bebe model terrorize his former bullies. Meanwhile Ron wants to be the school mascot and become part of the cheer-leading squad Kim is on. Needless to say she isn’t crazy about the idea.

It’s quite possible this episode would have fit better into the series if it were about 3 or 4 episodes earlier. For the sake of reviews I am going to call the Bebe cyber women the 8th villain introduced in the series. The reason for this is that they actually turn on Drakken once they are convinced by him that they are perfect and he is unfit to lead them.

This episode is loaded with cool fight scenes and another lesson for Kim, but I think my overall favorite part about this thing is the design of the Bebe’s. They have a cool look, but also the ability to crawl on walls like General Grievous from the Star Wars prequels. This episode is pretty unique in that it is one of the very few that feature Doctor Drakken, but does not feature Shego. It’s also one of the very few times that Kim and Ron go off to save the day, but travel separately due to having some friction.

The art and pace of this one are really well done, but there are a few scenes towards the end where the backgrounds feature a basketball crowd that isn’t even moving. I won’t be too picky here however because that would have been a lot of work given the size of the crowd and the fact that the final scene would not have been improved much had they added movement to the fans in the background.

Oddity – Wade actually put a tracking chip in Ron… bloody hell. There is also a part where we find out Drakken didn’t know that Dr. Possible was Kim’s dad, seems kind of like that would have been almost impossible to miss.

Best Line : “Well, he didn’t used to be blue, I can tell you that much” – Dr. James Timothy Possible

I give this episode a 6 out of 7. In spite of a few weird things, it’s still a really fun and awesome episode.
