AVENGERS : INFINITY WAR (2018)

AVENGERS : INFINITY WAR (2018)

Tagline – Destiny Arrives.

The plot of this one is basically that Thanos (the main bad guy) wants to wipe out half the universe using the Infinity Stones the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been exploring for the past 10 years. All of the worlds heroes are here to stop Thanos…expect probably the only one that can actually do it. Oh and some of the other coolest characters in the Universe that were just left out of the big dance (so far).

Thanos does show up with some of the best baddies we have seen in the MCU, however he himself is very hum-drum and far more boring than anything we got in the first set of DCU movies unfortunately. His reasoning for his giant mission is very base, overall pointless, and definitely nowhere near as worth is as the price he has to pay to achieve it. No spoilers here if you are one of the 2 people that didn’t go see this. Having said that, they do call him the Mad-Titan and not the “Moderately Reasonable Titan”.

We do get a lot of foot-dragging explaining Thanos backstory which could have and should have been explored in any one of the million set up films prior to this one. Instead the middle of this thing is a lot of dialog and a lot of….”yeah yeah we knew that”, scenes that don’t add anything to the story. Where the film is massively successful is any scene Spiderman shows up in and the new Iron Man suits are just freakin epic. Unfortunately Black Panther is made to look like a back burner hero, Dr. Strange is suddenly and inexplicably dumber, the Hulk is chicken, no one from the military bothers even attacking Thanos's ship ,almost everyone but THOR is basically useless and some of the best characters are hardly ever even on screen. A big green one for instance. While this movie may be the closest Marvel has come to making it feel like we were watching a real live comic book come to life on screen….it was a really poorly put together comic with half it pages missing. Not something worthy of a 10 year set up by any means. Overall I walked out of the theater wishing I hadn’t spent a dime on it. Why? Because overall it was a drag. Sure I left Empire Strikes Back feeling similar on an emotional level but at least we knew Han was still alive. I get it. The directors wanted to punch fans in the gut then give us an exciting part II to this movie. That is all well and good, but it doesn’t help make this movie any better as of the moment. For that, Infinity War is a fail. I hope it finds it’s redemption in another movie…which kind of highlights the problem with this this thing.

Best Line - Let me just say, if aliens wind up implanting eggs in my chest or something and I eat one of you, I'm sorry. - Spiderman

For its M. Night Shayamalan like ending….I have to give Infinity War a 3 out of 7 for now. Mrs. Marvel you are wanted on set.
