GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 (2017)

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 (2017)

When GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY came out it quickly shot to the top of my favorite non-STAR WARS space sci-fi movies. My expectations for VOL.2 were sky high going into this one and in many ways the film delivers. It turns out that the mystery of Peter’s father left over from the first movie was at the core of this one. I am not really sure what I expected here, but following the actual MARVEL comic on who Peter’s dad is would have been a huge let down.

Anyway Rocket has issues, and decides to steal stuff from the Sovereign. Peter’s father shows up protecting the Guardians from a bunch of Sovereign mind-droids (or whatever the heck they are called). I don’t want to give too much away in case you are one of the 3 people on the planet that have not seen the movie yet. My only issues with the movie were the opening sequence, which could have been one of the coolest parts of the movie, but was reduced to something just to get us through the credits. Some of the plot points and driving force regarding Ego seem to be lacking and  (a more rare complaint) , Mantis not resembling her comic book counterpart enough.

Heavy on humor the movie almost gets a little too far emotionally unbalanced towards its final stages but overall this movie is incredibly enjoyable and definitely worth buying. I do love the fact that Nebula gets more screen time and we get to see more of what motivated Yondu.

The backstory and development of characters adds to the richness of this part of the series. This is something director James Gunn has done better than any of the other directors in the MCU.
