JOHN WICK (2014)
When Helen died, I lost everything. Until that dog arrived on my doorstep... A final gift from my wife... In that moment, I received some semblance of hope... an opportunity to grieve unalone... And your son... took that from me.
In this movie Neo (Keanu Reeves) basically takes time out of
his busy schedule to jack up a bunch of baddies outside of the matrix.
Kidding…kidding..he’s actually John Wick in this thing (hence the title). When
some dudes pick the wrong guy to mess with (by stealing his car and taking his
most precious possession left in the world) it’s time for retirement to end and
the bullets to fly. THE EQUALIZER was TAKEN in this thing and it’s time to
answer to the HITMAN with the REPLACEMENT KILLERS. What I am trying to say is
we have seen this before and I think in the genre JOHN WICK holds up quite
nicely.
We get just a ton of superb action and some clever plot devices that
give this movie a rich flavor. The talent list is off the charts and that only
adds to not just the realistic credibility of the film but the quality overall.
I don’t know that I loved this movie as much as others did just based on the
premise and familiarity.
Keanu Reeves certainly knocked it out of the park, but
why are we only giving Bridget Moynahan a few seconds of screen time? There was
a good 10 minutes I could have seen even in flashbacks that would have made me
care about John even more than I already did by bringing his wife into the fold
as an even clearer memory. Not much else to say here, great flow and camera
work.
