Kung Fury isn’t really a movie, it’s more of a short film (just 30 minutes) where almost everything cool that you can think of has somehow been crammed in. The short is meant to be a nod to the 80’s action flick only with cooler CGI and about as much action as we saw in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD all in one tiny package. Oddly you can catch this thing for free on YouTube right now, or even buy it on ITunes for a really reasonable price. Anyway, the most kung fu cop in Miami has to go back in time to kill Hitler and the only way to do that is with the help an 80’s style hacker friend. When he misses the “kill Hitler” time frame he ends up somewhere in ancient times and all craziness is unleashed.

Critically this is an on purpose disaster of filming and crappy acting that actually adds to the charm and genius of this thing, because it was perfect for what they were trying to accomplish. This does have a lower quality “IRON SKY” feel to it, but is just flat out all its own and it does not care what anyone thinks. It also reminds me a lot of what we’d be getting if there were ever a live action version of AXE COP made. 

There isn’t a ton else to say here, even David Sandberg’s acting is outlandishly campy and fun along with all the other epicness this thing delivers. Sandberg can also be credited with both the writing and direction for the film. 

Everyone involved in this was an un-known except for David Hasselhoff who has managed to not only maintain relevance well after his career could have ended, but has also become one of the most respected cult figures in cinematic history. 

Anyway even the picture for this thing doesn’t do it even the slightest bit of justice (yeah I know there are repeated elements, but whatever), so run on over to YouTube and check it out now if you like movies at all.

I have to give this flick a 7 out of 7 for perfection in what it set out to accomplish and that was take us back to the glory days of action flick in the most over the top way possible.
