MACHETE KILLS (2013)
This is one of those movies I saw about a year ago, but
never got around to writing a review for.
Basically, this is a follow up to TROUBLE MAKERS STUDIOS first installment simply titled MACHETE (which oddly was at one point just a preview at the beginning of either PLANET TERROR or DEATH PROOF, I can’t remember).
Anyway the President hires MACHETE to take down an arms dealer who wants to basically take a rocket to space and blow up the earth. Yeah, you read that right. This wouldn’t be a far cry for something you would see in the comic DARK 30, but compared to the first movie this was a stretch. I think in some sense maybe fans didn’t return because of that. Part 1 made 9 times what it cost to make. This one, barely over 3 million what it cost to make. These days that basically means if the studio doesn’t want to risk it, then it's crowdfunding time.

This film gets merits on guts alone, but we are also given a
decent soundtrack and a lot of the same cast we had in part 1. Danny Trejo (who seems like he is making about a movie a
week these days), Alexa Penavega Tom
Savini and Michelle Rodriguez to name a few. It also has Lady Gaga who I’d
never seen in a movie before, so that was different. Expect lots of blood and
guts, but this isn’t a horror film and it’s likely if you are offended by
certain things you won’t like it. The plot is nuts, the editing is
intentionally terrible and it’s loaded with just flat-out non-sense. Of course, that is probably why I loved it.
