BIG ASS SPIDER (2013)
In this one, the military,
a security guard, and an exterminator are hunting down a very powerful, very
large, very aggressive, and very hungry spider. This movie falls along the same
lines as movies like ARACHNOPHOBIA and EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS but might actually
be even better. Just enough horror elements to make this list BIG ASS SPIDER
not only delivers in the fun department but is pretty funny at times (slightly
inappropriate for the PC monitors out there) as well. The most notable actor in
this movie is probably Ray Wise (JEEPERS CREEPERS 2, ROBOCOP, X-MEN FIRST CLASS).
Greg Grunberg (STAR TREK, HEROES) also does a nice job in this as the lead Alex
Mathis who actually claims he can get inside the mind of a spider (yeah- it’s
that awesome). Some of the effects in this are pretty good especially when the
spider is melting people’s faces off, but at other times we get typical B-movie
CGI garbage.
Had the movie's promoters done a little better job this little trip into sci-fi epicness it may have
gotten as much attention as SHARKNADO, but I can say it is a few notches below
that. If you are looking for a little horror and a little fun at the same time,
BIG ASS SPIDER is a pretty great addition to your horror marathon. I give this
one a 5 out of 7. I can see it growing on me even more after multiple viewings.
