RETURN TO HORROR HIGH (1987)
In a lot of my reviews I
tell people that some of the horror flicks I watch would have been better
suited for the 80’s. This is one of them, and wow look, they did sneak it in 3
years under the bell. They also managed to get George Clooney in on the action
as short lived as his scenes are.
This movie is about a
film crew that purposely goes to an abandoned high school to shoot a horror
film based on murders that happened earlier at the same exact location.
Complete with a cheese rock soundtrack and all the great things we wanted in
our 80’s campy horror movies, RETURN TO HORROR HIGH is oddly hard to follow. You have the know story or the investigation, then you have the actual
murders of the film crew taking place but in the past, and then you have the
movie going to the movie in the movie with occasional flashbacks while all this
is going on. Bloody hell.
I know some people will
see this and not want to wade through its entirety but if you liked 80’s campy
horror at all, this is a not only a must see, it’s practically a model for the
entire genre. To top this all off Marcia Brady (Maureen McCormick) is in this movie as a (weird) cop. She didn’t actually
stop doing the Marcia Brady thing until 1993 (which was the last tv movie for
The Brady Bunch).
Another
tid bit. In the movie one man trying to avoid getting killed actually claims he
has to leave his girlfriend behind at the mercy of the killer, to go watch the
Raiders on Monday Night Football. Several actors even play multiple parts, some
noted and some not. Don’t walk into this expecting serious horror. I would
honestly watch this again just to hear the song during the credits because it
just kind of lends to the whole idea.
