OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN (2013)

So if you follow Gerard Butler at all, you know he hasn’t really ever reached 300 status since that movie came out. I am not saying he hasn’t been busy, I am just saying since 300 his career choices wouldn’t be considered stellar. In this one, the White House or (Olympus) is captured by a terrorist who took bad guy lessons from Jet Li ala Lethal Weapon 4. Two Face (Aaron Eckhart) is kidnapped and of course, 1 man is going to save the WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buwahhahaaa. Oh, and the terrorists are trying to set off a bunch of nuclear weapons with a pretty brilliant new twist.

Plot-wise and pace-wise this movie is pretty freakin great. We also get Mogan Freeman talking. That is all you need to know. Morgan is on screen and he is saying stuff and he is doing it awesomely as usual. There is just a ton to love about this movie but it does make me think that perhaps we need to have a completely fake nuclear system hooked up to fake bombs and everything. That way in case some nut tries this crap we can spend hours and hours set up something that will never actually cause any harm. Just throwing that out there and I am sure trying to blow up the world is fairly difficult in real life? Anyway of the two “Washington sucks” movies of the year, OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN takes the crown this summer. See also INDEPENDENCE DAY and WHITE HOUSE DOWN for “they really should get the President a new pad” entertainment.

This movie is what happens when you have a bunch of great actors and a superb script. For these reasons OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN is one of the best movies of 2013.

I give this film a solid 6 out of 7 for the performances and solid writing.
