IRON SKY (2012)

IRON SKY (2012)

So if you were born in the 80’s or early 90’s and you looked in the back of your history book. You probably remember seeing a section called “Looking to the future” or something like that. In that section, you were most often told we’d have flying cars and bases on the moon by 2000.

Much to everyone’s disappointment neither exist, but to be honest this movies premise of having Nazi’s on the moon, wasn’t much of a stretch for me. If you watch any History channel, you know the Nazi’s were into all kinds of crap.

Here we don’t have a serious look at anything. Meant as pure imagination and a shot at not only the Nazi’s but the world, this film is just not in most people’s thought process. Instead of the UN we have an organization that has our world leaders interacting more like a dysfunctional family and a Sarah Palin-ish figure is the US President. If that isn’t intriguing enough, Nazi’s have been on the moon for years and have been plotting an all out attack on the world using space zeppelins and a flat mechanical looking version of the death star.

Most would probably put this film in the B-Movie range, but for me the over the top dialog, humor and massive amount of eye candy made this more than worth a rental. I strongly feel for some this will end up a cult classic, adding the cult, because it’s definitely not for everyone. This movie would not have made my Top 10 last year, but it would have been 11 or 12. You do have to be in the mood for some brash ideas and 90 minutes of sensory overload, but for the most part, Iron Sky is a great ride.

I give it a 6 out of 7. AMAZINGLY GOOD : This movie is more than a pleasant surprise. You will buy it, you will cry when you think about how awesome it is. If it comes on TV you will suddenly zombify and not be able to turn the channel.
